Berlin IPC Grand Prix Nationals 2013

Traveling to my first competition overseas was quite an exciting one as i haven’t competed aboard for quite a while. I have been to Berlin once before, but purely from a tourist’s perceptive.

Its a great and wonderful city steeped with history and it was lovely to return to the city, but this time with a job to do. The Berlin GP was the last opportunity to fine tune the training that we had been putting together and the final opportunity to make the World Championships GB team.

The competition itself probably wasn’t the best organised. This was a huge test of mental focus and to sustain my confidence having been delayed in call up by Thirty minutes and then having to wait an additional Thirty at the throwing area due to lack of officials to start the competition.

Overall i am very pleased with how the competition went.

I mustered a Seasons Best of 59.68m. Thats just 17 cm behind my Personal Best, and in addition to the 59m i had many slight fouls at over 60m+ which is hugely positive and something we have been putting right in training. So fingers crossed when it matters in the World championships ill be able to put it all together and stand a good chance at retaining my World Champion’s status.

Training has been going really well and its very consistent at the moment. I have an opportunity to try to get a PB and go over 60m+ this weekend at the Birmingham GP which is Live on Channel 4.

Make sure you tune in!!
